New Year, New “Best” Lists

Jolly Fresh Year!  The beginning of a New Year is a great time to reflect on the previous one, and probably why so many “best” lists come out in January. Best Cars, Best Toys, Best Books – how do you use “best” lists?

What makes a book a “best book”?  It shouldn’t be a surprise that we could all answer that differently.  Some readers like non-fiction only, and others prefer fantasy.  Some like mysteries, but not horror, and others might like the exact opposite.  Although I do like to peruse “best” lists, ultimately I still choose what I read, as should you! I appreciate that “best” lists sometimes include titles that I would not normally consider, and others that are already “must reads.”  I’m fortunate that my work also gives me the opportunity to ask the library community what they’re reading, and I take their recommendations to heart.

If you are looking for reading recommendations, the library’s Your Next Read service is just that!  Fill out the form and we  will send you five book recommendations within five days, chosen by a librarian, just for you! Remember, these are just suggestions, but we hope that they will aid your pursuit of good reads in 2020.

Thanks for reading!
