September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! Every year in September, just as kids are getting back in the swing of school, the American Library Association (ALA) promotes the importance of having a library card among your back-to-school supplies! This year may look different at school and in the library, but your library card can still be helpful.
GET YOUR LIBRARY CARD
First, if you don’t have a library card, click here to learn how you can get a card. Once you have your card, it’s time to start exploring the library!
VISIT GEPL.ORG
You can visit us virtually by going to gepl.org. View our catalog to find books, movies, music, and more. Use your card to place items on hold. Need some help? Fill out the Your Next Read form, and we’ll make some suggestions tailored to your interests. We also have physical lists in the library and digitally on the website.
EXPLORE OUR DIGITAL LIBRARY
You can also explore our online Digital Library. The Digital Library covers everything from educational play with ABC Mouse to arts and crafts with Creativebug; from books galore at OverDrive, BiblioBoard, or Tumble Book Library to the streaming services of Hoopla, Kanopy, and Access Video. Need a little homework support? Your library card can give you access to FREE tutoring through Brainfuse’s HelpNow resource, and there is math help available through TumbleMath. See all our great resources for kids – some, but not all, require your library card number and PIN to login.
JOIN A PROGRAM
Finally, check out our online program calendar! There are many things to look forward to, and you don’t even need a library card to sign up for these! All month long, we have a great activity for all budding chefs. Submit a recipe for our upcoming eCookbook. Instructions can be found here. Once the eCookbook is completed, it will be available online to download for free.
COME TO THE LIBRARY
Our new library Grab ‘n Go and Drive-Up Window hours are:
• Monday-Thursday, 10 am-8 pm
• Friday, 10 am-6 pm
• Saturday and Sunday, 2-6 pm
Please note, The Cafe closes 30 minutes prior to the library closing each day. During these times, you can use your library card when you visit for an hour to browse and select your own items. Or, once you have been notified by phone or email that they are available, you can pick up any items that you placed on hold at our drive-up window for fast, contactless service.
TRY SOMETHING NEW AND TAG US
There are so many ways to make your library card work for you. ALA has put together a BINGO card! Have fun with it, and when you get a “BINGO,” share it on social media by tagging us @GlenEllynPL and using the hashtag #LibraryCardSignUpMonth!
