Veterans Day 2023

By: GEPL Staff

Veterans Day recognizes and honors all veterans from every generation who have served in the Armed Forces.

The theme for Veterans Day 2023 is “Service.” Veterans are proud of their military service in defending our Nation. Honor reflects the military value and tradition of answering the call to duty. There is distinct honor in serving to protect our way of life and the Constitution of the United States of America. We encourage artists to consider Veteran history of service to our Nation and the honor we owe them for fulfilling patriotic duties.*

The library invites veterans to be part of the 2008 Veterans History Project. The Veterans History Project of the American Folklife Center collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. To learn more about the project or to provide a first-hand account from a U.S. Veteran, please contact Elizabeth Clower at eclower@gepl.org or 630-790-6750.

The Cafe at the Glen Ellyn Public Library participates in the Honor Rewards program through the DuPage County Recorder’s Office and offers veterans with an Honor Rewards card a free 12oz coffee.

Also on Saturday, November 11, the library will host a Veterans Day program: Smoky the War Dog where Adrian Brigham tell the story of one of the most decorated dogs in history for her service during WWII.

Thank you, Veterans!
