Congratulations, Sophie Kenney – 2021 Library Employee of the Year

Dawn Bussey, Christina Keasler, Melissa Hilt, Amy Waters, and Tom Malinowski celebrate 2021 Library Employee of the Year Sophie Kenney.

Last night, the library celebrated Sophie Kenney, Youth Department Assistant Director, who was named 2021 Glen Ellyn Community Awards Library Employee of the Year!

Hosted by the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce, the Glen Ellyn Community Awards recognizes who and what makes Glen Ellyn wonderful. Each year, honorees are determined by nominations submitted through a publicly accessible form on the Chamber website.

“This is such an honor,” Sophie said, “I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of the Glen Ellyn Public Library team and have felt welcomed and valued here since my first day.”

Youth Department Director Christina Keasler introduced Sophie at the ceremony. “It’s easy to see how she won this award during her first year at the library. Sophie started working with us with only five weeks to get her bearings before having to run the department while I was on maternity leave. As you may guess, that is a feat itself. She has slid into her role in the Youth Department seamlessly. I value her opinion as the Assistant Director, and she is an integral part of the management team. Whether it’s programming, collections, or management, Sophie is there to help.” Another colleague described Sophie as “a thoughtful leader who can both articulate the hard things as well as lift up those around her.”

Congratulations, Sophie!
