The Glen Ellyn Library Foundation 2023 gala event, The Silver Ball, will take place on Friday, April 28 at The Morton Arboretum in the Ginkgo Room and feature live music from Bluewater Kings Band.
The event celebrates 25 years during which the Foundation has grown the funds in an endowment and used the interest earned to provide high-quality library services in a state-of-the-art facility and fund projects that foster innovation and outreach.
Dan and Midge Anderson, whose generous contribution to the Foundation allowed the library to renovate the 2nd floor to create the Teen Scene room in 2008, will be honored at The Silver Ball in April. In 2008, the Andersons recognized the need for a dedicated space for high school students in the Village, and when they learned that the library wanted to create such a space, they offered to match funds raised by the Foundation for the effort. The funds raised, doubled by the Anderson’s matching donation, made it possible to create the Teen Scene room.
As a way to provide high-quality, state-of-the-art innovation for Glen Ellyn in 2023, the library approached the Foundation with an interest in creating a makerspace. A makerspace is a place where people come together to create with technology. The library was thrilled when the Foundation agreed to help fund The Workshop: A community makerspace!
