Large Print

The Glen Ellyn Public Library maintains fiction, nonfiction, young adult, and youth collections in large print. The young adult collection features fiction books, shelved next to others by the same author.

Hi-Lo Collection

The Glen Ellyn Public Library has a collection of High Interest, Low Level (Hi-Lo) books for young adults with reading disabilities. The books are written for high school students and feature highly accessible writing styles and relevant themes. The collection was donated by the Glenbard South Special Education Department.

Blind Services Association Satellite Meeting Space

A one-on-one reading program is available for all patrons with a visual impairment. Anyone who needs reading assistance (mail, personal paperwork, other printed materials) is encouraged to register and find out more by calling Blind Service Association .

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, every effort will be made to make library programs accessible to individuals with disabilities. To aid us in making programs accessible to you, please contact our Finance/HR Director at least 72 hours prior to the event. Those requiring hearing assistance can reach the Glen Ellyn Public Library through the Illinois Message Relay Service for the hearing impaired at 800-526-0844.

The library offers closed captioning during live programs, and closed captioning across all social media platforms for recorded programs.

Text Magnifiers

Text magnifiers are available at the 2nd Floor Information Desk.

Large Type Keyboard

A large type, high-contrast keyboard is available at the 2nd Floor Information Desk.

Sensory Awareness

Sensory boxes located in the Youth and Adult departments contain items to soothe or stimulate senses as needed. These tools can also be used to help focus and process stimuli. Items may  include noise cancelling headphones, a kaleidoscope, a visual timer, a fiber optic light, an interactive and sturdy book, a weighted blanket, and fidgets.

  • Noise-cancelling headphones can cancel-out some sudden noises and reduce background noise.
  • Fiber optic light can be used to stimulate touch.
  • Weighted blankets calm anxiety or restless movements, and they can ground the body while mimicking the feel of being hugged.
  • A visual timer can help transition from one activity to the next.
  • Fidgets can help channel energy, control emotions, and facilitate critical thinking skills.

Borrow what you need and please return items when you are finished.

Study Rooms

Library Study Rooms have adjustable lighting and, while they are not soundproof, block out most background noise.

Computer Lab

All tables and desks in the computer lab are of appropriate height and depth for those using a wheelchair. All monitor and chair heights are adjustable.

Parking and Front Entrance

Accessible parking spaces are available in the library’s parking lot. The front entrance has button-operated automatic doors.

Elevator

The 2nd floor is accessible by elevator.

Drive-Up Window

The library has a drive-up window open during library hours.

Getting to the Library

The library is completely accessible by sidewalk north of Roosevelt Road. It is directly on the Illinois Prairie Path and is 0.6 mile walk west of the Glen Ellyn Metra Station of the Union Pacific West line. The closest PACE Bus Stop is the Glen Ellyn Metra Station and is accessible by the 715 PACE Bus route. Please stop by at the 2nd Floor Information Desk for local transportation system maps.
