Glen Ellyn Public Library offers a variety of storytimes for children starting at birth. During librarian-led programs that incorporate stories, songs, movement, rhymes, and other activities, your child will learn to love reading and the library.
Glen Ellyn Public Library is challenging families to read 1,000 books with their children before kindergarten! Reading aloud to your child is one of the best things you can do to help prepare them for kindergarten. It’s an activity known to develop essential pre-reading skills. Most importantly, reading aloud can raise a lifelong reader!
Reading 1,000 books aloud sounds like hard work, but let’s break down the math. If you read one book a night, you will have read over 1,000 books in three years. If you read three books a day, you will complete the program in a year!
Everything read to your child counts. These books can be
- Re-reads
- From the library
- Not from the library
- Read by an older sibling, babysitter, or grandparent
- Read at preschool
- Read at storytime
